Mr Willats’ Charity supports churches throughout England and Wales. We appoint people, known as Guides, who offer both practical and spiritual support to those who need it, in the churches in which they work. There are currently one hundred Guides employed across England and Wales.
A full time guide is currently paid a stipend of £2500 per annum and for that twenty hours of their thirty five hour working week must be spent in personal contact with those to whom they minister. A part time guide works for twenty hours and receives half this grant. Guides are appointed on an annual basis and can serve for a maximum period of five years. The Charity does not appoint more than the equivalent of two full-time Guides to any one parish.
The Charity’s work is primarily funded by the rental income from properties in the City of Bath, which our founder, Mr William Willats bequeathed. It does not formally fundraise but accepts bequests and donations.
The Trustees meet in March, June, September and December each year to consider applications for grants and to receive reports from Guides.
